The Hagar Association believes that there is a need to develop a public, cultural and social space in the Negev in which Jewish and Arab citizens can meet and act in an atmosphere of equality, mutual respect and tolerance. In a reality characterized by segregation, alienation and distrust between the two communities, the Association sees the creation and development of such a shared space as its vital mission.
In order to fulfill this mission, we have founded a cultural, linguistic and social community-outreach program that
supplements the educational project of the Hagar kindergarten, pre-school and first grade. We believe this framework
has the power to strengthen and deepen the relationship between the two neighboring communities, Jewish and Arab.
Hagar’s communal framework offers activities that promote knowledge and arts in a multicultural spirit, awareness of
environment issues, and social responsibility. These activities are organized and conducted not only by
professionals but also by volunteers and parents.
We believe that giving wider publicity to Hagar’s communal framework and opening it to Beer-Sheva citizens at large
will contribute to expanding the Hagar community and to promoting Hagar’s values and ideas.
